This lesson introduces learners to various objectives set by businesses, we start by looking at what an objective is, then looking at the main objectives (from spec) before looking at some real examples of businesses that might have quite different objectives to each other. We look at a case study of a business that seems to have a few different priorities that could lead to them achieving their objective - a 12 mark question, structure guidance and a concise model answer for students to look at when peer assessing using the marking grid provided. This double lesson introduces learners to the various digital and non-digital types of advertising medium used. We start off by looking at what advertising, before watching some TV ads. There are quite a lot of methods students to need to know along with their pros and cons so there are a few days this can be delivered. An independent research task where students find the pros and cons for either digital or non-digital and then feedback to class. A walk around the class activity where students find the pros and cons of the advertising methods and compelte their tables with notes, or this can be delivered as a matching task to be done on tables in groups.

Learners are introduced to the extended marketing mix (7Ps). For product, we look at the product life cycle, Boston matrix and influences when developing new products. For Price, we look at the two main strategies which are required by the specification (skimming and penetration) as well as a few others just so students have a broad understanding of the topic. Many promotional strategies are discussed and worked on including social media/viral marketing, with the emphasis on branding. Different distribution channels are looked at too.

This double lesson builds on learners understanding of market failure from year 12, but now we focus on failure in the financial sector. A very interestesting topic due to the application of the financial crisis. We start by recapping what market failure is and how banks fail. We then look at the 2008 financial crisis to understand what happened. Examples of different market failures are given, video case studies to help students contextualise. A 15 mark question on whether banks should be bailed out, indicative points and a peer assessment grid is included for students to use. A research task, some true or false questions to consolidate, a debate, box plenary and kahoot to finish with. A link to a documentary for homework too.
